 The American Cancer Society reports that 87 percent of cancer diagnoses in adults 50 years of age or older are diagnosed by doctors in the United States. The onset of cancer may be influenced by genetic factors.

The genetic coding in a person determines when their cells will divide and die. Gene changes may result in incorrect instructions, which may cause cancer.
